Latest episode: How did Goliath get so tall?

ICYMI: Wednesday’s episode

I am on a bit of a David-and-Goliath kick right now, for three reasons.

  • One, because I just got back from vacation where I saw an incredible production of David’s life at Sight and Sound theater.

  • Two, there’s an amazing new show on Amazon called House of David that I just finished watching.

  • And three, because the story of David and Goliath is a picture of the spiritual battle we all find ourselves in every day.

Goliath’s height is reported in the Bible as six cubits and a span- which amounts to about 10 feet in modern terms. Some scholars insist that Goliath couldn’t really have been that tall, that this must be some kind of mistake.

In our latest episode, I explain why it’s not. In case you missed it, you can listen here…

Does mankind have a 120-year time limit on lifespans?

To go along with our latest podcast episode, you may have noticed that I featured the following article on the home page of WeirdStuffInTheBible.com

Just before Noah’s flood, the Bible interjects a rather bizarre 120-year restriction on the human lifespan- one that doesn’t even actually seem to go into effect at the time that it’s given.

Genesis 6:3 (note that this is the New Living Translation) – Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years.”

Why was this limit placed on mankind? And why wasn’t this restriction immediately followed going forward?

My Summer Reading List

If you want to glimpse my summer plans, here’s the stack of books I’m diving into:

Much of this is study material for the podcast. I’m sure some of the insights I find will make their way into future episodes.

I’ve already recorded this Wednesday’s episode- “Goliath’s Brothers and other Giants of the Bible.” It’s going to go in detail on every giant not named Goliath (…which includes another one who actually is). Go subscribe to the pod if you haven’t already!

Have a great week and a weird Wednesday…
